Awana Kijal Beach & Golf Resort boasts a 3.7 km beachfront, 363 rooms and suites and nine restaurants, East Coast's largest fun pool, an 18-hole championship golf course and a wide range of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, ranging from table tennis to water sports, fitness centre to beach volleyball. Given its extensive facilities, Awana Kijal is ideal for families, incentives and conferences.
Approx forty minutes away from Tanjong Jara, the course is visible as guests drive up the approach road. This is a course for serious golfers, opening with a fairly benign par 4 that may lull players into a false sense of security, as the course is more difficult with a long double dogleg par-5 with an approach over water. The remainder of the front nine then criss-crosses over a river where an experienced player will encounter no real problems, apart from the ninth which, at 307 metres off the back tees needs a good tee-shot to be close to a lay-up area in front of a huge lake. Golfers may then probably need a good 7-iron to safely reach the green.
The back nine, for most of its length, runs round the intensely blue lake – the colour deriving from iron-ore, which was mined here – posing several blind shots. Gentle fades are required in most cases to keep in form. This wonderful course measuring 6000 metres is very challenging. A challenge for beginners or high handicap players!
There is no clubhouse or catering facilities.
